Assessment is pervasive in the teaching and learning of mathematics at any educational level though often its impact on the students’ and teachers’ experiences is underestimated. With this ERME topic conference we wish to sharpen the focus on the ‘assessment of mathematics’ part of mathematics education research. It is an ideal opportunity to meet with colleagues doing research in assessement or topic-specific research with links to assessment.
